We have moved yards which has great facilities for taking in horses, our loose boxes are 14x14 and are in a large airy barn with windows to the outside, we have a large flood lit arena and a round-pen. There are five and half miles of tracks around the farm and plenty of turnout for those that need it.

Backing youngsters

I have really enjoyed backing youngsters this last year, I had forgotten how much I missed it. It was interesting for me as I have taken on a Joey a good, competent rider to help me ride my own horses when I am not there and to also help back the youngsters. Joey was surprised that it wasn’t just warmbloods and competition horses that came into be backed but a real mixture of cobs, children’s pony’s and the odd warmblood.

Preparing your youngster for backing is probably the most important part their life as a domesticated horse. Getting it wrong and making mistakes although not intentional will make things very difficult for your relationship.

My aim when backing your youngster is to give them and you the best possible start in life that is stress free. I will use a process that will allow your horse to be happy relaxed and forward going in his job whatever that maybe.

My aim for you is to have a forward going horse that responds to all the basic aides of go forward backwards and to be-able to move sideways both left and right, this is important to enable you to hack out in a forward and safe manner.
Don’t forget we take any horse or pony for backing, you don’t have to be an Olympic hopeful.

Your horse will probably stay anywhere between 4 - 6 weeks, every youngster will be treated as an individual.

Re-backing youngster

Re-backs can be difficult and with this in mind I will take re-backs in on a two week assessment, after that two weeks I will know how things are going to go, and I will be completely honest with you. Most horses need re-backing for a significant reason which is why it is so difficult to say how things will go without an assessment.
However that said we have had a few in this year and they have gone really well, I take them back to basics and literally start again.

Ridden problems & Schooling issues

My main aim with these issues is to give you back a horse that is forward going and happy and relaxed in his work, however you as the rider play a huge part in this and again will be taught all the tools need to implement once you go home. All of the processes I use fit in with normal methods used so anybody can still ride your horse and he will understand the aids given etc, the only difference (hopefully) is that your horse will become much more responsive to the aids
Your horse will stay for between 2 - 4 weeks

Early education

This is for un-backed youngsters and is what I would put in place to give you a nice respectful youngster that you can take anywhere and do anything with. It will improve all areas of horsemanship from standing when asked to performing in the show ring. Good early education makes the backing process so easy and just becomes another day in their life rather than a big event.

Your horse will stay for between 2 - 4 weeks

IMPORTANT NOTE

I will do my best to train your horse to the best of my ability, I also promise that you will go home with the knowledge and the tools needed to progress in your relationship.

HOWEVER, this will only be of use to you if you put in the work and continue to build on your horses education. If you go home and think what I have done in a few short weeks will last a life time then you will be VERY disappointed.
